House
renovation.
Our house is part of Narva’s historic townscape. Today, however, it urgently needs professional restoration. The house has only six owners, so the cost of maintaining the shared property is very high.
The most pressing problem is the crumbling chimneys on the roof. Their condition is critical: the brickwork is falling apart, and individual bricks have already fallen, posing a real danger to people and property. For safety reasons, the Rescue Board has prohibited the use of the stoves.
For residents, this means more than losing a familiar source of heat. District heating in Narva is very expensive, and without stove heating many are finding it increasingly difficult to pay their bills in winter.
For three years, we have sought support for the reconstruction from the National Heritage Board, and we plan to apply again. Restoring a historic building requires a special approach: the work must be authentic, preserve the building’s historic appearance, and be carried out by a specialist company licensed to perform restoration work. This significantly increases the cost of the project.
We need support to stop the house from deteriorating, remove the danger, and allow residents to heat their homes safely with the stoves again. This is more than a chimney repair — it is about preserving a historic house and decent, affordable living conditions for its residents.
